Addrenex Pharmaceuticals is based in Durham, NC on the edge of Research Triangle Park. The company was formed in June 2006 by a practicing physician and a drug development expert. The goal was to create a company where clinical intuition and expertise are combined with thorough knowledge of the drug development process in a nimble and creative environment. The result would be rapid successes in obtaining approvals for the company’s compounds in meaningful medical conditions, underserved by the current treatment options.

Addrenex identified adrenergic regulation as its initial research focus because of the expertise of its founders and because of the large number of medical conditions that are affected by a dysfunctional adrenergic system. These conditions include hypertension, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-menopausal symptoms, pain, aggression, sleep disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), among others. Even though these conditions have traditionally fallen in different “therapeutic categories”, they share a common physiological cause, at least in some patients.

Addrenex intends to remain focused on the underlying biology of adrenergic conditions. We also intend to remain a development-stage company and rely extensively on in-licensing and out-licensing activities to grow.
